Cancer Communities: the Rise of Self Help Groups

Cancer Communities: the Rise of Self Help Groups

From the day of diagnosis, to incredible relief of the “all clear”, living with cancer can be a stressful, painful but in many cases curable experience. It may be hard to see how a cloud so potentially devastating as cancer could have any silver lining, but the rise of self help groups is one of the more positive aspects to come out of cancer suffering.

Self help groups provide a setting in which people can share similar experiences and offer each other practical and emotional support in a reciprocal and mutually beneficial manner. People go to self help groups for many different reasons; some simply want information and will then move on; others may want to make sense of what is happening to them by listening to the experiences of those who have been through something similar.

The sheer number and diversity of cancer self help groups that exist is quite remarkable, and they can be found in the most remote of places in UK. There are cancer help groups that cater for all manner of cultural subsets, such as ethnic minorities, gay and lesbian cancer sufferers and child sufferers. No matter your age, race or sexual persuasion, there is almost certainly a cancer support group that can help you.

And if there isn’t, why not start your own local cancer support group. Several major cancer charities offer help and advice to people wanting to start their own self help groups. They provide information, guidance and training to people involved in new or existing support groups. Members of new groups can attend workshops about starting up a self help group, workshops on listening and responding, as well as receiving support and advice from someone who has had experience of setting up or being part of a self help group or service and will be on hand to answer any questions.

And finally, don’t forget that the internet is alive with self help forums, mailing lists and discussion groups, so if for what ever reason you can’t attend a self help group in person, get online and you’ll find hundreds of people helping others by answering questions and providing help, support and advice via their personal computers.

Don’t suffer alone; find your nearest self help group and join them, and if there isn’t one in your local area, get active and start one!

How Critical Thinking Supplies Enhance Learning?

How Critical Thinking Supplies Enhance Learning?

Each day of our lives we become exposed to things that hinder our ability to think creatively and rationally. Critical thinking supplies are invented so that educators and parents both can help their students and children to think clearly, accurately and fairly. Additionally, critical thinkers are usually better prepared to those who lack this ability. Just because your child is intelligent or has greater knowledge does not mean he is decisive and rational. Critical thinking is about how our children can use their intelligence and knowledge to reach objective and rationale viewpoints. Critical supplies engage children in both life and learning. Its real value lies in the fact that it improves their understanding of the world they live in, while it works to develop personal skills that will help them meet with success throughout their lives.

Children are not born with the power to think critically

Children are not born with the power to think critically nor do they develop this ability naturally beyond survival-level thinking. Critical thinking is a learned ability that must be taught. The first step to let the child become a critical thinker is developing his proper attitude. Such as attitude embodies open mindedness, intellectual and free thinking, high motivation, and healthy skepticism. Your child must have a natural curiosity to further one’s understanding and be motivated to put in the necessary work sufficient to evaluate the multiple sides of issues. This may require your child to ask many questions. A critical thinker cannot be lazy.

At the heart of critical thinking is the ability to recognize, construct, and evaluate arguments. The word argument may be misleading to some. In the context of critical thinking, an argument means the presentation of a reason to support a conclusion.

Children learn from one another as they share ideas

Children often create pictures in their minds about past experiences and the situations they imagine with the critical thinking supplies. These images are a form of creative thinking. They also learn from one another as they share ideas and solve problems together. Listen to what your child says when they are engaged in creative play. If they are talking from the perspective of the role they are playing, and communicating with other children about the make-believe situation, they are playing at a safe level. Knowing these skills gives you a framework for observing children’s play and deciding when and how to improve their knowledge and skills.

The critical thinking supplies aim to inspire a love of thinking while developing important critical thinking skills in your child. These creative supplies will inspire and encourage middle school students to continue practicing higher order thinking in high school, college and beyond.

Mark Hamery invites you to take a look at Ace Education Supplies (Ace Catalog) where you will find an assortment of critical thinking supplies, preschool supplies, teacher supply and much more.

The Power of Thought ? How to Control Your Mind to be a Positive Thinker

The Power of Thought ? How to Control Your Mind to be a Positive Thinker

Getting over challenges in life of ignoring the negative stuff and embracing the positive stuff is a main purpose for everyone’s life.  It may be different challenges for different people but the overall focus is the same – Let the power of thought rule your life!

The mind is a terrible thing to waste and is easily wasted by those who don’t know it’s true power.  We’re all given the same mind power and we can all control our minds to the point that we are bringing in good and beneficial opportunities and experiences.  There will always be the ups and downs of life as far as what’s happening on the outside, but the inside – your personal life – can be controlled and treated as a your personal space of positivity and serenity.  Developing a serene mind was so fittingly wrote by James Allen in “As a Man Thinketh”.  As the last chapter in his superb guide to training your mind, he wrote how a calm and controlled mind is what will be a main factor in producing positive thinking and having successful life.

Whether you try to create a calm mind first or take control in other areas of your mind that seem less difficult, like just ignoring negative thinking – you will be sure to cultivate a serene and calm mind through your efforts to gain full use of the power of the mind and cultivate a mind of positivity.

Getting to the core of mind power is what most need to do to start with. There needs to a bit of understanding about how the mind works and what natural laws are always at work to benefit our human endeavours. Many have heard of the law of attraction that was sensationalized in “the Secret” and it the message was relayed in a truthful manner however it seemed to not really take hold for too many people, especially for those that are trying to get a way from this materialistic world we live in.  “The Secret” definitely spoke of other areas of your life to put that law of attraction into practice, but it seemed to be lost on many people who only saw the somewhat materialistic appeal of the message portrayed and then dismissed any of the good points and lessons given in the movie.  It was, after all, just a taste of how you can have more control of your life.

Long before “The Secret” there were a number of different programs and teachings of how you can truly use the power of thought to have more control of your life and use your mind power.  There also seems to be a number that have popped up after the movie, and as with most things, check out the source to see what you’re really getting and don’t believe everything you hear.  You’ll be much better of delving into this subject with an open mind to really take the info to heart, but also try to choose those who have been in the business of teaching positive thinking and mind power for a number of years. There are a number of them out there.

Stephanie has been focused on personal exploration intensively for the last 10 years.  This has resulted in reading various kinds of self improvement books, taking coaching programs, experiencing different paths to spirituality and working through life’s struggles in various different ways.

From all this personal discovery, Stephanie is following her path to pass on her insights and fulfill her desire to connect with others to help them feel better about themselves and teach the various ways to live a more balanced life.  Get some more knowledge on the power of thought.

Feng Shui Door Facing – Free Feng Shui Tips To Enhance Your Love, Career, And Wealth Luck

Feng Shui Door Facing

Build the life you always wanted! Make your living and working environment inviting, stimulating and comfortable!

Feng Shui is an age-old wisdom originated from ancient China some 3000 years ago. It is the culture of society and economics, the embodiment of culture stability pass down from generation to generation.

Feng Shui involves the study of landscape, air, space, location, time, sunshine and humidity. It is the knowledge of directing, balancing and harmonizing those forces called chi. It differs person to person and from place to place. Different people in different place will have different experience.

The Ba Gua or the eight trigrams is a set of symbols representing the universe. The formation and permutation of the Ba Gua is associated with the human affairs as well as the natural phenomenon. The Ba Gua is one of the most sacred symbols in the ancient Chinese culture. It symbolizes the relationship between Heaven, Earth & Man and the time. It penetrates into various studies of economics, politics, military science, philosophy, literature, medical science, the martial art and architecture.

Every one of us lives under the influence of two inseparable field of chi, above us is the immeasurable vastness of space and below us is the invariable power of earth. This is where we lives and raise our family. It is our home.

Here are some free Feng Shui tips for you:

Feng Shui Tip 1: The Effect of Electrical Appliances on Feng Shui

In Feng Shui, the auspicious areas of a house should be kept as spacious as possible so that the positive energy can be flow smoothly. There should not any obstruction to the flow of Chi (or Qi) in auspicious sectors. Thus, big or heavy furniture items should not be placed there. This is also an important concept in the practice of Vastu Shastra.

In Feng Shui, sound and electrical energy have the effect of activating Feng Shui stars (good or bad). Therefore, the placement of electrical appliances such as television, radio, fan or computer can affect the Feng Shui of a house. These electrical appliances should be placed at the auspicious sectors. Furniture which can be placed at the inauspicious sectors includes sofa, cupboard, etc.

Generally speaking, the left side of a living room is the Green Dragon while the right side is the White Tiger. The Green Dragon is considered auspicious while the White Tiger is considered inauspicious. Electrical appliances should generally be placed at the left side of the living room while the big furniture like cupboard or sofa should be placed at the right side of the room.

Feng Shui Tip 2: Road That Curves Away From a House

In Feng Shui, roads are the modern version of water. Thus, the curvature of a road affects the Feng Shui of a house. A road that curves away from a house facing the entrance creates a strong and negative flow of energy called Shar Chi (Sha Qi) towards the house. Since water represents wealth in Feng Shui, the presence of such as a road will have a negative wealth effect on the inhabitants of the house.

To solve this problem, place a windscreen in front of the entrance to prevent the negative Shar Chi (Sha Qi) from “entering” the entrance directly.

Feng Shui Tip 3: A Long Straight Road That Creates Shar Chi (Sha Qi)

In Feng Shui, a long straight road facing a house can create Shar Chi (Sha Qi) to the house. The longer the road is, the stronger the Shar Chi (Sha Qi) that is created. Inhabitants of a house facing this Shar Chi (Sha Qi) will encounter problems like accidents or other “blood-shedding” incidents such as having to undergo a surgery or operation.

The easiest way to solve this problem is to place a windscreen in front of the door or entrance. This will prevent the Shar Chi (Sha Qi) from entering the house directly. Feng Shui Door Facing

Feng Shui Tip 3 : A Door That Faces Another Door

In Feng Shui, a door facing another door can create Shar Chi (Sha Qi) between the two doors. There are four possible scenarios:

(a) Main door of a house facing main door of another house

In this scenario, the inhabitants of both houses are likely to be quick-tempered and quarrel frequently. To solve this problem, place a windscreen in front of the door.

(b) A room door facing a toilet door

This scenario takes place within a house. Besides problems of quick tempers and frequent quarrels, the inhabitants staying in the room might develop digestive and urinary diseases. To solve this problem, place a windscreen in front of the toilet door if the room is big enough. If there is not enough room for a windscreen, simply close the toilet door.

(c) A room door facing a kitchen entrance

This scenario is not as problematic as the first two scenarios. Nonetheless, inhabitants of the room will be prone to accidents and minor injuries and if the problem persists over time, inhabitants might encounter major accidents. To solve this problem, place a windscreen or hang a bead curtain in front of the kitchen entrance.

(d) A room door facing another room door

This scenario is the least harmful of the four. Tempers might erupt occasionally and if inhabitants are working in an office environment, office politics will occur frequently. To solve this problem, place a bead curtain in front of the room door.

Feng Shui Tip 4: Locating An Auspicious Main Door

The main door plays an important role in the Feng Shui of a house. Thus, it is important that the main door is located in an auspicious sector of a house. Generally speaking, the main door should be located in a position which enables positive Chi (Qi) to flow into the house.

If there is a pond or empty space in front of a house, the main door should be located at the centre of the house facing the pond or empty space.

If a road passes by the front of a house and slopes from left to right (or the left side of the road is longer than the right side as seen from the front of a house), the main door should be located at the right side of the house facing the road.

If a road passes by the front of a house and slopes from right to left (or the right side of the road is longer than the right side as seen from the front of a house), the main door should be located at the left side of the house facing the road.

A windscreen can be used to correct the location of an inauspicious main door. Feng Shui Door Facing

Happy Life Forever by 10,000-Years-Ago Norm

Happy Life Forever by 10,000-Years-Ago Norm

This article is a summary of 700 Posts and 2 Books. (1-3)

Happy Life

Happy life is very easy to make if one can stick to human valid instincts.

Five Main Valid Instincts

The 5 vitally important instincts are:

(1 ) Valid Happiness is the feeling of things being a-step-better for keeping our DNA alive.  It Includes: love, sense of beauty, symbiosis (justice, morality, friendship …) courage, …. creation,…It is confirming what we are doing and have done and encouraging us to go further. It is only directional in nature without much quantitative nature.

(2 ) Well-Being is the ongoing feeling of things going step-by-step-better for keeping our DNA alive.

(3 ) Valid Suffering is the feeling of things being harmful to keeping our DNA alive and calling us to prevent or rectify or remedy it. It includes: hate, ugliness, pain, ….. It is alarming, correcting, learning, creating, and is the impetus of bio-evolution.

(4 ) Soul is the spiritual self formed by the computation results of our instinct and pre-instinct data-programs in the brain. Soul runs our brain and the brain runs our body.

(5 ) Life Goal is to keep DNA alive.  It is the origin of everything of human life. Being without it will cause depression and even suicide.

Youngsters

Before 21 years old, we eat, play (learn), …. to grow up in order to keep our DNA alive in a new generation.

Love

The instinctively falling in love of adults is to accurately match (including “running in”) their data-programs of instincts (including intuition, soul,) and acquired pre-instincts (including wise, knowledge, accuracy,….).

Failure in love is just the matching with a wrong person.

Marriage

Husband and wife together is one-whole-bio-entity integrated spiritually in order to keep DNA alive in a much more efficient way.

A married couple should never divorce because divorce is just like a surgical operation to cut a whole body in two spiritually.

Symbiosis

Making Friends is one of the instincts necessary for our symbiosis, which makes feeble human beings possible to survive in the wild nature 10,000 years ago against cruel animals and natural disasters.

Morality, Justice … are other instincts necessary for keeping our symbiosis working well.

Optimal Point

Optimal Point is the key for everything in human life. To reach the point is easy; and to keep the anything right at its optimal point without going away too far is essential for our happy life as well as survival.

Optimal Point of Wealth is being passably well-off. Too much money makes keeping DNA difficult.

Health

To Be Fit, Smart and Energetic Through 100 Years Old, we need do instinctively as follows:

(1) Eat only living cells of a great variety.  (2) Do physical activity exhaustedly in nature each day.  (3) Sleep all night long in the dark. (4) Pursue only valid happiness.

Beauty

Valid Beauty must be good for keeping DNA alive; otherwise, human can not survive. The best way to see through the invalid beauty is by means of 10,000-years-ago norm.

Human Extinction

The urgent problem of human extinction can only be solved by keeping our DNA alive at its optimal point according to 10,000-years-ago norm. (4)

Conclusion

Happy life comes from to live by 10,000-years-ago norm validly. The norm comes from our instincts. Only our valid instincts run happily and healthily our body as well as the brain.
