Satori – Music For Yoga And Meditation

The CD’s liner notes define satori as “the indescribable experience of sudden, intuitive spiritual realization.” That may be, yet unless you are a serious student of yoga or a fan of its ancient musical traditions, you may struggle to reach such a state while listening to these improvisations for shakuhachi flute (Riley Lee) and koto (Gabriel Lee, no relation). The recording’s mood is almost somber and contrasts noticeably with Oriental Sunrise and Sanctuary, two splendid Riley Lee discs that of

We Have to Admire our High Achievers

We have to admire our high achievers

Reza Hossein Borr

There is nothing more dangerous for a society than when the culture of low achievement has been established in it.

<a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://www.rezaaa.com/blaming-expectations.html”>Low achieving and blaming societies</a> are societies in which everybody is expected to fail.  The members of the society become generally underachievers.  And low achievement becomes the general expectation from the members.  The actions and reactions that happen in the low achieving society perpetuate this characteristic.  When one member of the under-achieving society achieves something exceptionally well, he will be isolated and even blamed for it.  His success will be attributed to the help of foreign forces and not because of his own inner abilities and talents.

The culture of low achieving societies is self-consuming and self-undermining.  The individual members of such a society allow themselves freely to undermine each other in order to keep each other under- achievers.  People usually try to perpetuate this culture rather than challenging it.  Failure becomes normal and acceptable.  Success becomes very surprising and abnormal.  High fliers become estranged and alienated.  In fact, low achievement becomes so rampant that everybody thinks there is no way out of it unless you betray your people and begin to work with the extraordinary powers outside the society who are usually blamed for the failing society.  The people in such a society usually compare themselves with each other and say,” If I could not make it, nobody can make it.  Since I can not make it, if somebody else can make it, then he must be the agent of our enemies.”  People become very judgmental.  And when they judge others they in fact attribute their own inabilities to others.

In a high achieving society, people say,” if he did it I can do it too.”  In low achieving societies, people say, “if I cannot do it, nobody else can do.  Since nobody has been able to do it in our society in the past, nobody can be able to do it in future.  There is now anyway that anybody from within our society can break the barriers and begin to achieve tasks that others have not been able to achieve.”  These societies usually blame the authorities for their own failures.  The authorities welcome such an approach and find themselves as the source of power and authority and therefore, treat that society as if it is inherently incapable of achieving greater tasks and therefore, it must remain the low achieving society it was and if somebody has exceptionally succeeded in becoming a high achiever, this has been just because the authorities had wanted that.

The low achieving societies are usually the victims of their own failing culture which has been partly created and established by the members of the society and partly by their enemies who intend to keep them controlled with low expectations.  They bring up the members of society to have low expectations as this way of bringing up of the children and students suits all.  The teachers, the parents and the authorities join hand in convincing the children and students that they belong to an under achieving society and therefore, they have to be contented with this state as it is.  This understanding suits the three sides of the problem.  The teachers would not strive to secure professional skills for bringing the best in the students and therefore, they feel just comfortable in teaching whatever they think can be enough for children with a future that is already determined by ready-made conditions and circumstances.  The parents accept this state as the fact and would not invest sufficient time and energy and money for teaching and coaching children; expecting them to just follow their steps and become happy with whatever they can earn in a closed and failing society.  The authorities are also happy with this situation as they can easily manage and lead people with low expectations without investing sufficient funds for their training and education.

Gradually under achieving becomes so clear and popular that nobody can challenge the established culture.  If one member of the society becomes motivated to move over the limitations that have been established for his society, that will generate a great upheaval among the friends and relatives who had expected him to fail as they failed before him and become one of them.  The absolute majority of people who live in cultures of under achieving would not want to become estranged from their own people.  They want to be one of them and whenever they strive to achieve something out of ordinary, they would not be anymore one of them and therefore they will be the target of different insinuations.

What we see today in Baluch society is a failing group of people that expects its members to fail on all areas of life.  There are two accepted options open for them: one to fight and die, and one to fail and live in poverty and misery.  The culture of failure does not allow the people to become high achievers and if somebody becomes a high achiever, his high achieving would be attributed to betraying his own people and working for Pakistani intelligence services.  This is how the culture of failure is getting perpetuated in Baluchistan.  Baloch people expect each other to fail or fight.  There is now another third option which is option of succeeding.

When we see a group of volunteers who have bravely organised a school in the streets of Leyari, we admire them.  We celebrate their contributions, but, yet we do not do anything just like what they did.  We do not volunteer to do similar projects for the public or engage in enterprises that bring us success.  The prize always goes to those who fight and die to save their people.  A nation has different options.  An individual has different options.  As and when a group of people are part of one country, they are entitled to, according to human rights charters and all other United Nations rules and regulations, to have equal access to all opportunities ,good education, high positions, and succeeding in businesses.

If we  I admire the teachers who set up the school we have to admire those Baluch people who have succeeded against odds in Pakistan or  Iran.  It is their basic right of every Baluch to have access to the highest positions in the countries that they live in.  We must not blame the high achievers of our society as collaborators.  The Baluch people can succeed without the help of intelligence services or any other authority.  They have the talents.  Those who have not been able to make it must not blame others for being able to have made it.

We have to celebrate the success of every Baluch in every area of life.  We have to create a new culture of success in our society.  We have to make success our greatest value.  We have to teach the skills of success.  We have to individually and collectively break the barriers of the failing society in which we live.  We have to admire those who have already succeeded.  Dying is not the only thing we have to appreciate.  We have to appreciate life and we have to appreciate the efforts of those who make a decent living for themselves and their families.  As much as we despise those who betray Baluchistan, we have to praise those who have done something in whatever they have been able to do so.  We have not to only praise the teachers but also praise the employees of an office that delivers services. We have to praise the shopkeeper that supplies what we need.

We have to create a new culture of success and achievement.  Despising the successful Baluch people has become so far very popular.  This is a very destructive approach.  It must be replaced by the culture of admiration.  If we continue despising the successful Baluch civil servants, entrepreneurs, teachers, businessmen, and other professionals and attribute their success to their collaboration with the intelligence services, we will destroy the foundation of our advancing society.  We will promote failure and failing.  We will discourage other people from competing with other people and becoming better.  We will discourage success and encourage underachievement.  People love to be loved especially when they succeed.  If they know that they would be hated when they succeed, they will prefer to be poor but loved.  People cannot take backbiting and character assassination for a long time.  Character assassination is equal to a nation assassination.  When we discredit somebody who has been able to climb the ladders of advancement, we would not only bring the person down to our own level of under achievement, but we damage the spirit of those who are looking for ways to get out of the present deplorable situation and find ways to a better and higher standard of living.  We must remember that our society is a rising one in all areas.  This is the rise that we have to celebrate.  We are in the process of changing over society from an oppressed nation to a rising nation.  This begins with the rise of individuals.

We must encourage our people to go for high positions.  We must encourage entrepreneurs to set up more businesses, to create more wealth.  We must encourage civil servants to get better jobs and more financial rewards.  At the same time we have to encourage all of them to serve their national interests in whatever position they may be.  Baluch people can serve their national interests better when they are in high positions.  A nobody cannot offer any services.  We must try to encourage the Baluch people to go for continuous self-improvement.  We must encourage them and give them the confidence they need to assert themselves among their colleagues and opponents.  In a country that there are thousands of top jobs, the Baluch people must be persuaded to go for higher level of professional skills to advance naturally and become the holders of top positions.  It is only from the top positions that they can serve their nation.  We have to support the Baluch people in their struggle in the commercial world to reach new heights and celebrate their success.  We must be pleased to see more names of the Baluch people in the board of directors of more companies.  We must stand firm and support every Baluch people who has motivated himself to break the limits that has been imposed on him to reach his destination.

A nation can succeed when its individual members begin to succeed.  If we succeed one at a time, we will all succeed together one after.

Positive Affirmations – Do They Really Work?

Positive Affirmations – Do They Really Work?

I will explain why positive affirmations work for some people sometimes, and why it doesn’t for some other people, some other times. I will also introduce a powerful new alternative twist to positive affirmations that works – almost as instantaneously or quicker than what mere repetition of traditional positive affirmations can do for you.

The Missing Link in Positive Affirmations.

It happens almost every time, to almost every person who has at least tried a positive affirmations technique before.

You repeat to yourself, over and over again, “Every day, in every way, I am getting better and better”.

Or maybe, if you’re looking to lose weight (I’m looking to gain weight. Wait till you see how small my body is), you try this affirmation, “I am getting thinner every day”.

Or even worse, this, “I am a thin and beautiful person”. No, you don’t want to! Believe me! Alright, weight-loss is not the topic of this article. Let me get to the point.

What do you see in common with the 3 examples of positive affirmations above?

ONE: These positive affirmations are extremely vague, abstract.

The statements you see above, which most of you (who are into the positive affirmations thing) repeat to yourself every day, have no specific, tangible value attached to it to make it progress-oriented.

Just look at the first one (invented by Emile Coue), “Every day, in every way, I am getting better and better”. Getting better and better at what? Fooling yourself? Messing yourself up? Sorry, friend, “… in every way …”, to your notorious subconscious mind may include the two negative things mentioned earlier.

Or the “I am getting thinner every day” affirmation. Thinner in what way? In bone size? In brain matter size? The word “thinner” itself subliminally suggests lack, which is the opposite of abundance.

To make your positive affirmations more effective, you need a specific, tangible value to it. Such as, “Every day, in every positive beneficial area of my life, I am increasing my effectiveness, productivity and efficiency by 1%”. 1% improvement may be small, but it is workable.

But this is only one stage of the journey. As you read on, you will witness the evolution of this positive affirmation.

TWO: These positive affirmations are expressing something which is far from the truth right now.

Let’s say you have acne. I have acne. I still have after I’ve tried numerous prescriptions, from Proactiv to Oxy to what-have-yous. But fortunately, my condition is improving.

But let’s say you have really bad acne, like I once did when I was 15. Really, really bad acne. Scars, blackheads, whiteheads, red spots, rough, dry, itchy skin, with oily patches. Eugh… Sorry, I just had to implant the image into your mind to make you understand better.

And since you want to try this positive affirmations thingy, you say to yourself, “I have a clean and clear skin”, or “My skin is becoming cleaner and clearer every day”.

Now try saying that straight-faced to your friend… (Beat) I rest my case.

What’s wrong with these affirmations?

Number one, “I have a clean and clear skin” is one heck of an outright, outrageous, big, fat, ugly lie to say to yourself if you really have that bad case of acne described above!

And who is any worse to lie to than your good, old, beloved Self?

Number two, if you’re just going to stop at affirmations, and not do anything about your condition, you’re obviously not going to get anywhere!

What’s the missing ingredient here? Action. Which is what I’ll address in point number…

THREE: These positive affirmations are not action-oriented.

Every great achievement that has ever been accomplished in this world has been accomplished by action. Don’t go believing in the New Age “Zen”-ish “Go with the Flow” concept – even that requires action.

If you want to “go with the flow”, isn’t that an action in itself? “GO” is an action, isn’t it?

What’s the use if you only stop at dreaming (or the more constructive form, Creative Visualization), or doing positive affirmations, and not do anything to attain your desires?

Besides making your positive affirmations specific and more “truthful”, you can add an action-oriented dimension to it by suggesting what you’re going to do to get your desired results and affirming that you’re doing it well.

This may seem like making an initially short and simple affirmation into a prolonged and complicated one. You can break that one affirmation into many, if you like.

For instance, if you wish to gain weight, you’d say, “Every day, in every way, I am taking proactive steps towards achieving my ideal, healthy weight in a motivated and effective manner”.

The difference between “I am at my ideal weight” or “I am gaining weight every day” and the above is that the previous two do not deal with what you’re going to do to achieve your ideal weight and with the current reality (I’m all skin and bones) while the latter tells your subconscious mind everything (almost) it needs to know.

FOUR: These positive affirmations are not “Editor-Proof”.

What I mean by the Editor in “Editor-Proof” is the little voice in your head that you sometimes – no, constantly – hear.

You say, “I am getting better every day”. Your Editor says, “Yeah, right.”

You affirm to yourself, “I am opening myself to wealth and abundance around me”. Your Editor retaliates with, “What are you going to do about it?”

These kinds of attacks can weaken the power of your positive affirmations if they’re not made “Editor-Proof”.

Sometimes, your Editor can come up with a “pre-emptive strike” (ring a bell?) in the forms of negative self-statements like, “I’m a good for nothing. Nothing I can do to improve my condition will work anyway, so why bother?” or “I’ve failed many times before, I’ll surely fail again. I should just move on”.

While this Editor may be useful in some ways sometimes, like pulling you back to reality after a bout of unconstructive fantasising, you can reduce its hold over you if you want to get something out of your positive affirmations.

First, see your Editor as a friend, not your enemy. Albeit, a mere good friend, but not certainly your BEST friend. Approach your Editor as you would approach someone you’re not afraid of, someone you can easily deal with and influence, not an authoritarian figure.

Second, try to listen to what your Editor says in rebuttal to your positive statements. Write them down and think of re-writing your affirmations to evade the Editor.

A good way to do this, that is, to evade the Editor is to turn your positive affirmations into questions.

For example, if you are affirming, “I am at my ideal weight”, turn it into a couple of constructive, effective questions like:

“Why is it important that I must be at my ideal weight?”

“How can I achieve my ideal weight?”

“What must I do to achieve my ideal weight?”

“What would it be like, feel like, when I have achieved my ideal weight?”

Questions tend to shift your mind’s attention away from the possible blocks to your goals and focus instead on what proactive steps to do to achieve it.

Questions are like swords (because of their sharp, focused nature) to help you defend yourself against the Editor’s attacks.

FIVE: These positive affirmations do not address what I call the “3-Person Subconscious Truth-Verifier” concept.

The 3-Person Subconscious Truth-Verifier is simply stating your affirmations in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd person all at once.

Instead of just, “Every day, in every positive beneficial area of my life, I am increasing my effectiveness, productivity and efficiency by 1%”, you can also state -

“Every day, in every positive beneficial area of your life, you are increasing your effectiveness, productivity and efficiency by 1%”, and -

“Every day, in every positive beneficial area of his (or you can place your name here) life, he is increasing his effectiveness, productivity and efficiency by 1%”

What this does is to attack the problem 3-fold.

One, when you state the affirmation in the 1st person, you are affirming something which you yourself know to be true.

Two, when you state the affirmation in the 2nd person, you are feeding that part of your mind which needs outside opinion to help form what you see yourself as. A part of us needs someone to verify our worth, to praise us, to confirm outside what we believe inside. This helps to fill that need.

Three, when you state the affirmation in the 3rd person, you are also still feeding that need mentioned above, but taken to another level. This time, it’s as if we are eavesdropping on other people’s opinions about us.

It’s a little tricky to explain. But this is the best attempt I can come up with. All you have to do is try it!

Hence, these 5 points form the missing link in positive affirmations. Next, let me introduce a powerful new alternative twist to positive affirmations that will work wonders for you.

A Powerful New Alternative Twist to Positive Affirmations.

As I’ve explained above, one of the major obstructions to the effectiveness of positive affirmations is the Editor which constantly rebuts you with negative or sceptical statements.

To evade the Editor’s attacks, one can turn to questions. Why questions? That is a good question.

Questions are the laser of your mind. They help you focus, keep your mind’s attention on one and only one thing – the answer.

It was Einstein who said that if he were to be killed, and had only 1 hour to figure out how to save his own life, he would devote 55 minutes into finding the right question. Then, he said, finding the answer would only take 5 minutes.

Even self-help guru Anthony Robbins described about the power of questions in affecting our lives.

But still, I haven’t answered the question of how and why questions can evade the Editor and help bring about the transformation that positive affirmations are supposed to effect.

You see, what we focus on, consistently, and attach importance and energy to (whether willingly or not), we get.

And since questions that are constructive, goal-oriented, proactive, and hence, effective shift our focus from the problem that the Editor may pose to the solution, we get the results of that solution.

It doesn’t matter whether or not we immediately know the solution to our question. Our subconscious minds will surely find a way, if you pose the question to it clearly enough.

Like I said above, a question that is sharp and precise enough is like a sword that will cut through the depths of your subconscious mind right to the core, wherein lies your answer.

Compare this to the loosely crafted positive affirmations that do not address the 5 missing links above. Before these affirmations can reach deep enough inside the subconscious mind, they’re attacked, stripped, torn apart by the malicious negative statements of the Editor.

Alright, here’s how you go about the Effective Questioning technique.

One, consider those 5 missing links written above before you create your affirmation.

Two, create your affirmation. It must be:

- As specific as possible,

- As close to the truth as possible,

- Action-oriented,

- Editor-Proof,

- Stated in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd persons simultaneously.

Three, using only the affirmation stated in the 1st person, turn it into a question.

- Make a “Why” question from it. A “Why” question confirms your purpose, your reason, the motivating reason why you must have this outcome you want.

- A “How” question focuses your mind on the course of action you need to take to achieve that outcome. It focuses on the solutions.

- A “What if” question engages your imagination to foresee the benefits you’ll gain from the achievement of your outcome. This question focuses you on the goal.

- Once you’ve prepared the 3 “I-You-He/She/Your Name” affirmation statements as well as the 3 “Why-How-What if” questions by writing them down on paper, you can put them to good use by either writing them down 15 times a day or repeating them to yourself while in a relaxed, alert state.

I urge you to really take some time each day, with a pen and paper in hand, and try this method. If possible, record any noticeable changes in your thinking, in your moods, in your behaviours and even in your life.

Because if you mould your thoughts, you will surely most effectively mould your life as well. It’s a ripple effect.

Paths to Empowerment

Paths to Empowerment

We hear a lot about empowerment these days. Becoming empowered is regarded as a desirable state to attain — and definitely a desirable state in which to live one’s life. But how do we attain that state; how do we empower ourselves?

What is Empowerment?

First of all, how do we define empowerment? I believe we first regarded empowerment as desirable as a reaction against “giving one’s power away” or being “powerless.” To be empowered is to have control over one’s life. (It does not, however, include having power over others’ lives.) To be empowered and to have control, or power, over one’s life includes having control over all facets of one’s life: it means thinking for oneself and taking responsibility for one’s life, as well as being active instead of just passive; it means moving past dependence toward independence. It does not mean, however, that we become so empowered and independent that we become islands: to be happily self-empowered, we gain autonomy in our lives, while still feeling a connection to others and our environment. A curious balance between independence and connection. Being connected to others may entail compromise in our relationships. There is a difference, however, between compromise and giving one’s power away or sacrificing oneself.

What we are talking about is knowing our own Truth. Knowing our own Truth, knowing who we are — Self Knowledge — and trusting in it is powerful stuff. And once knowing our Truth, to then live our lives by it.

To be empowered is to know one’s Truth, to think for oneself, to be independent while still feeling a connection, to be active as well as passive, to take responsibility for ourselves. A person who is self-empowered has integrity, with all his parts integrated. A true “whole.”

Obstacles to Empowerment

Now that we have dissected the meaning of empowerment to death, how do we become empowered? Let’s look first at what may stand in our way. What are the obstacles to empowerment? What do we need to change or work around?

One of the major obstacles to self-empowerment is our social conditioning. We have been conditioned to give our power away. We have been conditioned to regard established authorities as having absolute knowledge, as icons not to be questioned. One good example of this has been the social view of medicine and medical practitioners. We have been trained to take doctors’ advice as gospel and not to question or take an active role in our own health care. This is the view of “M. D.’s” as “medical deities.” This attitude, happily, is changing. We are learning to take responsibility for our own health. We are learning that we can question, and still respect, authority while respecting ourselves.

Another way in which our conditioning blocks empowerment lies in the very way we are trained to think. Just as we are trained not to question authorities, so also are we trained to think that things must be only one way. I think of this as one-dimensional or “totalitarian” thinking that does not allow for originality or variances or even shades of gray. Just as physicists are discovering that scientific laws are not hard and fast, that matter or objects do not always act as scientific laws would prescribe, so too are old, rigid concepts having to become more flexible. Thus, women are no longer necessarily dominated by men. Nor, in fact, we now realize, does there have to be domination of any type.

The “one-dimensionality” of our cultural conditioning leads us to see ourselves in a very narrow light — as only being or doing one or a few things — or only socially prescribed things. Thus, women should act only in one way, and men should act bnly in one (other) way. Seeing ourselves as only one thing — and thus not seeing other possibilities for ourselves — is very limiting. Seeing ourselves as only white or black or Native American, as female or male, as Christian or Jew, as American or Russian — limites our potential. To be empowered is to see and develop our potential. How many times have you been surprised to find that a doctor also writes poetry or that a well-known actor also paints well or that your auto mechanic may also sing? We become empowered when we move past the obstacles of limiting, one-dimensional cultural conditioning to fuller, more “whole” views of ourselves.

To become empowered, we must break past the old thinking that we must be or act in a certain, preordained, socially prescribed way (e.g., that women should please others and that men should dominate). We must move past rigid thinking that we have all the answers and that there is nothing new under the sun to a new state of a sense of wonderment. Thus, we must deprogram our cultural conditioning and have an open mind.

Another obstacle to becoming empowered is low self-esteem. If we don’t love or even like ourselves, how can we trust our own thinking? Self-doubts, low self-esteem, lack of trust in oneself — all block our becoming empowered. If we don’t think highly of ourselves, we certainly don’t truly develop our independence.

And connected to low self-esteem is the other obstacle, lack of self-knowledge. It is hard to empower ourselves if we don’t truly know ourselves.

Another major obstacle to being empowered, which is also connected to low self-esteem, is old uncleared issues. Issues that are not resolved cloud our thinking and block our energy flow. They affect our behavior as behind-the-scenes, unconscious motivators and do not allow us to be truly in control of ourselves — or empowered. Being empowered means being clear, thinking clearly, seeing clearly, and acting accordingly.

Fears are also a major obstacle to empowerment. Our fear holds us back and robs us of will. It is an energy that closes in, instead of expanding outward. It is a block to the free flow of energy. To be empowered is to be clear, to have one’s energy flowing freely. Fear prevents us from being truly self-reliant and clear-sighted.

Passivity and dependence are also blocks to empowerment. To be empowered, we must be independent, we must be active. Again, this does not mean blocking other people out; one can be independent and connected. Being self-empowered means being somewhat self-contained, having integrity (wholeness, independence) in a natural, free-flowing way. Being passive and dependent entails giving one’s power away.

Lack of knowledge is also an obstacle to empowerment. To be empowered, one must be as self-reliant as possible. It is hard to be self-reliant without knowledge. Wise men have talked about the importance of knowledge over the centuries. Contemporary near-death-experiencers have also stressed its importance. As we add to our knowledge, we add to our storehouse of data upon which to draw. As we add to our knowledge, we are better able to think for ourselves. Lack of knowledge leaves us in a weakened and impoverished condition which is not conducive to empowerment. As Francis Bacon said, “Knowledge itself is power.”

Similarly, lack of self-development is an obstacle to empowerment. If we have not developed parts of ourselves, we have less on which to rely in ourselves. As we develop more facets of ourselves, we know ourselves better and become more self-reliant. Our confidence is also boosted, and we become more whole. We thus are able to empower ourselves more and in more areas.

These are some of the obstacles to empowerment, and many of these factors are interrelated. Certainly low self-esteem, fear, dependence, and uncleared issues are inter-connected. As we move toward clearing one, others are also affected.

Paths to Empowerment

Given the obstacles to empowerment, some or all of which may affect any of us to varying degrees, how do we move toward empowerment? How do we remove the obstacles?

First let me say that we all have our own paths to follow. The path I have followed may vary greatly from your path. In looking for it and in following your intuition, you will find your own path.

That said, I would like to suggest some possible steps or directions. Some of these may be painfully obvious. Some may feel more appealing to you than others. We all come to things at the appropriate time. If it feels appropriate, try it. Remember that empowerment is a process that gradually unfolds.

Deprogramming Thinking

In order to break down the walls of “totalitarian” thinking investigate alternative modalities and disciplines. The more we are exposed, with an open mind, to non-mainstream ideas, the more we start to discover our own truths.

Try going to an alternative health practitioner instead of a “regular” (allopathic) doctor. Try a wholistic physician, acupuncturist, massage therapist, herbalist, etc.

Read about various cultural philosophies and religions: Native American, Indian, Egyptian, Mayan, African, Taoism, Hinduism, Islam, folklore, etc. There is wisdom everywhere. What feels right to you? Remember that what feels right now may later feel wrong and vice versa. (What feels right or wrong now may be the result of issue-related button-pushing, but that is a digression we won’t go into now. Rick probably thinks this article is already too long!) Try to keep an open mind as your explore. The more you explore alternative modalities with an open mind, the more you are deprogramming your mind and allowing it to grow in new ways. Digest what you are exposed to. Don’t accept everything as gospel. You will gradually find yourself developing your own ideas, one solid step toward being empowered.

Gaining Self-Esteem

Gaining self-esteem is a process also, and there are different ways to try to facilitate it. One conventional approach is therapy or counseling. This is a valid approach and needn’t be rejected automatically out-of-hand. If you choose to investigate this modality, try to choose your therapist or counselor carefully. Try to find one about whom you feel good, one with whom you feel a rapport. Try also to find one who facilitates your process of self-discovery, rather than one who controls you or encourages you to be dependent on him/her or who brings his/her issues into your sessions.

Guided imagery meditation or regression sessions may also help to build self-esteem by working at root causes. Energizing self-discoveries may be gained in this way.

Developing your talents and abilities can also boost self-esteem.

Remember that you are a unique and valid individual. Remember that we all have our talents and something to contribute. Remember that we all make mistakes and forgive yourself. Remember that the deepest beauty is that which is inside. Try to incorporate these thoughts into daily affirmations.

Knowing Yourself

Knowing oneself can be a difficult process. We tend to be trapped in our own egos and our self-perception tends to be colored emotionally by our needs, self-concept, and degree of self-esteem. Try to find that objective place in yourself, the place unaffected by subjective or temporal concerns — the observer.

Observe yourself in difficult situations and with different people. What do you see? How do you react?

Learn how your mind works. Watch yourself think by drawing upon your internal objective observer.

Explore meditation as a vehicle for observing yourself. Look into self-hypnosis.

What do you feel empathetic towards? What repulses you? What pushes your buttons? Why does it push them? What are your talents? What engages your interest?

Clearing Your Issues

Clearing issues is another process that may be a convoluted and divergent path. Again, counseling or therapy may be an option, as well as regression therapy and guided imagery meditation.

Bodywork that helps identify places in your body where issues and memories are stored may help in clearing them.

Bringing past issues or problems to consciousness that are not yet cleared also helps as a precursor to clearing them. Awareness and self-knowledge are closely entwined.

If your issues entail substance or other abuse, consider joining some of the support groups.

Identify and gain access to self-help books (John Bradshaw, A Course in Miracles, etc.). This can facilitate your own self-discovery.

Watch what pushes your buttons, especially anger and fear. Try to go into your objective observer (through meditation, self-hypnosis, etc.) and learn why your buttons are being pushed, what is the root cause. Sometimes conscious knowledge can help you move past the issue. (Not to be confused with denial, where there is no conscious awareness or acceptance of the issue.)

Look for patterns in your life. Do you find yourself over and over embroiled in similar dysfunctional situations or with similarly dysfunctional people (to use psychological terms)? Again search out the root cause.

Know that you can clear your issues. Know that you can feel clearer and happier and more content. Know that others have journeyed this path before and that you can, too.

Conquering Fears

Fears can be conquered. One of the first steps is to recognize fear for what it is. Ofttimes a fear may be cloaked or disguised as something else. Basically, however, love and confidence/being positive open us up. Our energy flows freely outward. Fear closes us in and holds us back.

Many fears are related to issues. Clearing issues can reduce fear. Fear also may be of the unknown, related to fear of not being accepted or loved, as well as fear of death. There is also the fear of not having enough, which is related to not feeling secure in ourselves. As we work on self-esteem and gain knowledge, this fear is reduced.

When you find yourself holding back, try to identify what is causing you to hold back, what the fear is. Identifying the core issue can help. This can be done through the modalities mentioned above.

Try going into your fear, a little at a time if necessary. True empowerment comes when we are “fear-less,” when we are clear of fear.

Realize that your fear is just that — a fear. Your fear of the fear and your holding back are more insidious than what the fear concerns.

When you go into a fear, feel the fear. Let it wash over you. Watch where it leads you. It will reach an end at some point. Watch yourself come back to normal, with the fear receding.

Whenever you feel fear and have identified the root cause, focus on love. Try to mentally wrap the fear in love, completely envelop and enclose it in love. Breathe into the fear, deep cleansing breaths from the abdomen. See the love growing in size and the fear shrinking.

Remember that nothing can harm you unless you first allow it in on some level.

Achieving Independence

Gaining independence may be accomplished by some of the modalities mentioned earlier: counseling/therapy, meditation, regression, affirmations, etc.

Dealing with fear can also help. Dependence often is related to low self-esteem and fears — of being alone, of not being loved, etc. We may feel we are not capable of taking care of ourselves. Love in the past may have meant giving up one’s power over oneself, an infant’s dependence on one’s parents.

Independence can be liberating and exhilarating. It is also related to self-development. As we develop more of ourselves and clear our issues, we come to rely more on ourselves and thus become more independent.

Developing Yourself and Gaining Knowledge

The more we develop ourselves and learn and gain knowledge, the more empowered we become. To this end, think of yourself as a multi-faceted person. Try not to feel that you can only do or be one thing. Being a renaissance person can help you become empowered.

Is there something you’ve always wanted to do or learn? Allow yourself to explore it.

It is interesting to note that recent research now reveals seven areas of intelligence, as opposed to the only two previously recognized: math and verbal. The other five areas are: bodily, spatial, introspective, musical, and interpersonal. Anyone can inherently have any of the above abilities or any combination of them. It has further been found that, if one is not utilizing all of his/her abilities, he/she does not feel fulfuilled or satisfied.

We are all more than we are brought up to believe we are. Realize that you can do things you may never have considered. We all have untapped potential. As we develop ourselves, we also gain knowledge of ourselves. Our self-view expands.

Expanding your knowledge is also a component of empowerment, and, conversely, empowerment is a by-product of knowledge. Consider the case of someone who has just been diagnosed with a serious illness. This person can sit back and be powerless and fearful of the unknown, giving his/her power away to a medical practitioner. OR he/she may take power by researching the illness and gaining all the information and knowledge he/she can and thereby knowing what he/she is dealing with and what modalities and avenues to explore.

Remember that “knowledge is power.” — both external knowledge and self-knowledge.

Developing Your Intuition

One of the strongest ways to become empowered is to develop your intuition.

We all have an internal “voice” that guides us. We know when something feels right or not. Learn to listen to your internal voice, or, if you will, your “internal BS meter.”

Learn to discern what your voice is, what it feels like, how it speaks to you. Your intuitive voice will be clear and not emotionally colored. It will feel sure. It will also usually be persistent. It may be experienced as a “feeling in the gut.” It may come as an image, feeling, words, etc. However it is experienced is appropriate for you.

Learn what your voice is like and befriend it. Trust it. In trusting it, you are trusting yourself. Your intuitive voice is one of the greatest gifts you naturally have that leads to self-empowerment.

Final Thoughts

Remember that we can all increase our empowerment. Learn more about yourself. Trust yourself. Believe in yourself. Accept your uniqueness as an individual. Learn what your own truth is and honor it. Remember that we are here to learn and grow. Add to your bank of knowledge and abilities. Explore your world with confidence and with an open and curious mind. Know that you have your own path in life and respect it. Respect yourself, as well as others. Glory in your independence and empowerment. And, as Shakespeare wisely said, “to thine own self be true.” That is true integrity – and empowerment.

Benefits of Deep Meditation Music for Stressful Times

Many forms of meditation are applicable to many situations. If you’re a music lover, then perhaps you might want to try meditation music. In fact, as a human being, you can be compared to musical instruments because you can hum, sing, whistle, and make other pleasing and expressive sounds. Every person’s musical experience is often described with words like harmony, flow, stimulate, healing, in trance, in tune, uplift, and many others. When you express yourself through musical sounds, something unusual is happening inside your system.

Numerous distractions bombard individuals as they go through their daily lives like noise pollution, social melodrama, stress of daily commute, tedium of work, and a lot more. Life today is considered fast-paced because of a lot of new technological advancements, and therefore, people suffer from continuing stress. You can’t focus on your work effectively because your mind is already overloaded, uninspired, and burnt out. This results to a creativity block that can bring hopelessness to a person. But here’s the good news, there is a way to combat and cope with this kind of situation and that is through deep meditation music.

Where can you find such music? If you have no idea, then it would be better to ask the help of someone with knowledge about music meditation. On the net, you can find several sites that provide pre-recorded programs on music meditation.

It was only after 1973 when music was used for meditation. Many of the programs make use of the binaural technology. Through this technology, the brainwave frequencies (right and left hemispheres) are synchronized.

Through the deep meditation music, the brain can create fresh neural pathways. By doing so, the maximum potential of your mind is tapped at a shorter time. Usual meditation practices take longer periods but with music, you can find increased intelligence, inner peace, and reduction of stress.

Different goals and needs can be met by the wide choices of programs available. The specific program should be used to address a certain need/goal since programs vary in their brainwaves; and this is necessary to get the preferred effects.

Meditation music can benefit a lot of individuals. In fact, some specialists recommend deep meditation music as a form of therapy to address certain problems like that of stress-related illnesses. Many people are actually using this very effective tool and they are amazed and pleased with the results. They are able to achieve personal growth as they continue listening to meditation music.

If you’re suffering from extreme stress, or if you’re always unfocused, burnt out, and uninspired, it wouldn’t hurt to try meditation music. This is already accepted in our society today and many doctors are now recommending such therapy. This is a very good form of meditation. It relaxes your mind, as well as your soul.

Online or offline, there are a lot of resources that you can use to help you in finding the perfect meditation music suited for your situation. Get family and friends to help, or even your officemates. Better yet, consult your doctor or a specialist who knows a great deal about meditation music. You will soon realize that you’re slowly recovering from your problems.

Meditation in india: the revolutionary principles of meditation and yoga

3月 22, 2008 · Posted in Meditation · Comment

Meditation in india: the revolutionary principles of meditation and yoga

India is the mother of spiritual practices, meditation, retreats in india, meditation retreats, and meditation technique. The first written book, Rig Veda, comes from India and it is all about the deepest spiritual practices. Most religions like Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism etc. had their birth in India. They are still flourishing here and have produced some of the greatest spiritual leaders in this country.

Meditation in India can be divided into four broad categories — depending upon the propensities of the practitioners, they can choose the path that is best suited to their needs:

a. Jnana Yoga: Path of Knowledge is most suitable for those who have a deep urge to understand before they can accept anything. They want clear rational and experiential proofs before having faith in any knowledge. The meditation practice in this discipline consists of Truth based mantras and analytical inquiry. The inquiry helps dig out all wrong notions and the mantras make one experience the true Self which is absolute awareness and bliss.

b. Bhakti Yoga: Path of devotion is suitable for those whose minds are more love and faith based. They would like to follow a meditation method that would help them develop in their love for God. The devotee believes more in surrendering that in understanding. He will first have faith and then this faith will take him to the sublime experience of the Truth. Surrender to the divine will and deep longing to meet God are the main traits of Bhakti Yoga.

c. Raja Yoga: Path of concentration and awareness is suitable for those who like to practice a witnessing attitude. The witness is free from desires and reactions. The practice is based on certain moral principles without following which, the witnessing cannot shine.

d. Karma Yoga: Path of selfless work helps in making the mind pure and stable and gives immense joy to the practitioner. One who is compassionate at heart and feels that the highest practice consists in helping the needy will be following this path.

For practicing Meditation in India, there are many retreats available in all parts of the country. Wherever you go, you can find true seekers and true masters who will help you find your path and walk on it. These places are called ashramas where seekers create a sort of a sangha and practice together.

Z Meditation Center is the abode of deep spiritual practice for thousands of sincere seekers from all over the globe. The path followed here is that of Jnana Yoga, the path of Knowledge in which Deep Deconditioning Inquiry is practiced alongwith Radiant Mantras in order to realize one’s true Self. The other three paths are used as complimentary aids that help deepen the practice.

Ajay and Suruchi, the founders of Z Meditation, are ever grateful to the Cosmos for giving them this opportunity to serve the suffering humanity through this most sublime and pure work. If you feel ready to let go of your false stories, they will be very happy to help you do the same. This work requires sincerity, objectivity and openness to growing.

Come forward and join this greatest inner revolution. You are going to find many hidden gems in your heart!

Ajay kapoor is the name and form of the knowledge of freedom and bliss. He understands that the only valuable treasure worth having is a state of being that is non-demanding, non-expecting and non-controlling.
