How calm, present, and non-anxious can you stay in a life-threatening crisis?
A BBC News report from John Sudworth in Seoul, South Korea, says that the recent skirmish between North and South Korea “is of a different order” from the usual exchanges between the two nations. It seem that civilians were killed in the shelling of the South Korean island by the North.
So how are people handing this? Realizing it could escalate into all-out war on the peninsula that would wreck the South Korean economy, what are people doing to prepare?
Well, actually, nothing.
The BBC report goes on to say that “there is no sense of panic here in the capital Seoul. This busy, bustling city has been going about life as normal…”
There’s no hoarding of provisions or desperate flurry of last-minute flight bookings out of South Korea. Says the BBC reporter, “North Korea is simply a fact of life that South Koreans have learned to live with for many years.”
If we get into our thoughts and let them have free rein, there are so many possible tragic scenarios we could imagine for our own life, ranging from being a victim of terrorism to being in a car crash, losing our income, a fire devastating our home, or being traumatized, injured, or killed in a crime.
In contrast to the people of Seoul, many in countries like the United States arehoarding, expecting a collapse of the economy. And there are blogs and newsletters online that promote the fear that drives this.
Years ago on the Tonight show, Johnny Carson did a piece that was tongue-in-cheek about a toilet paper shortage. There was no shortage—until the day after the show.
Do you remember back when there was an announcement of a shortage of oil, and gas stations were emptied because people came in droves to fill up, lining up for blocks?
Most of the crises we find ourselves in are created by thought—ours, or that of someone else.
In his second book, Stillness Speaks, Eckhart Tolle comments:
Thinking that is not rooted in awareness becomes self-serving and dysfunctional. Cleverness devoid of wisdom is extremely dangerous and destructive. That is the current state of most of humanity.
Eckhart adds:
The next step in human evolution is to transcend thought. This is now our urgent task.
If consciousness prompts you to a particular action, such as vacating a city or country, that is one thing. But if actions come from thought, they are bound to backfire.
There is a lesson in the behavior of the people of Seoul. It’s not that they are living in a peaceful situation that never evokes worry, or that they are particularly conscious, but that they are able to go on with life despite this kind of threat. There is a measure ofpresence in this.
After all, one isn’t either not present at all or totally present. Presence happens to different degrees, at different levels in different situations. The universe has lots of shades of gray, little that’s either black or white.
Elsewhere, Eckhart asks, “What problem do you have at this moment?” Not when you get to the office in twenty minutes, but right now in this minute.
The only thing that takes us out of this moment is thought.
Consciousness operates in the now, not in speculation about the future. So if the South Koreans can go about their lives in the face of a serious threat, can we not live our life without becoming so anxious and spreading such panic, with its loss of confidence, that we bring down an economy?

In Classical Feng Shui (CFS) directions are key to setting up your Feng Shui correctly because unlike Black Hat/BTB/Western/New Age Feng Shui, CFS is not based upon your front door. You will need to know where North, South, East, West, NE, etc. Feng Shui My Home Office
Now when I say Classical I mean these types of Feng Shui (did you even know there’s more than one kind? Most people don’t.):
1. Compass – This type of Feng Shui is great for creating overall balance and harmony in both your home and office. Black Hat/BTB/Western/New Age Feng Shui is loosely based upon this type of CFS.
2. Men Gua – This is CFS that is personal to you and is based upon your birthday. Once you have your birthday you can determine what your 4 personal best directions are for Success (think career/money), Health, Relationships (personal and at work) and Wisdom (making good decisions for yourself). This type of Feng Shui is very simple to do and because it’s specific to you it’s a great way to dip your toe into the Feng Shui waters. 3. Flying Star – This type of CFS moves around and is based upon the stars around the Big Dipper. Flying Star Feng Shui is a great way to determine where the best areas of your home and office are for the year, which months are good for launching a promotion, getting married, asking for a raise, starting a new exercise program, etc. When you use this kind of Feng Shui it’s like having the answers to a big test ahead of time.
4. Xaun Kong Da Gua – This type of CFS is used to determine where and when to put water features on your property to attract weath. I don’t recommend you do this yourself because putting fountains, ponds and pools in the wrong place can create money and other problems for you (infinity pools are a major wealth drainer no matter where they’re located). There are a number of other types of but these are the ones I use the most.
So back to the compass. I often get questions from people like: “Is the front of my house North?” or “Do I put the Career area of the ba gua on my front door?” or “How do I use my compass?”
The easiest way to determine N, S, E, W, NE, etc. in your home and office is to figure out which direction the sun rises. The sun comes up in the East every day so an easy way to figure out where the directions are is to stand in your home or office and face the direction the sun comes up each day. From this you know that:
o The east area of your home/office is in front of you
o The south area of your home/office is on your right
o The north area of your home/office is on your left
o The west area of your home/office is behind you
An even better way to determine directions is to draw a floor plan of you home, figure out where the center is, stand in the center of your house with a compass and stand facing the direction that the arrow is pointing. The arrow (usually red or black) on a compass always points north. So when you stand facing the direction the arrow is pointing you know that:
o The area of your home/office that’s in front of you is north
o The area to your right is east
o The area to your left is west
o The area behind you is south

When you are living your life with purpose and directing your life with a purpose you are in control of your life rather than living a life that is controlling you and the events around you which is just an accident waiting to happen often with disastrous results.
A purpose driven life gives you a life with intention and direction and everyday that goes by you learn who you are, the meaning of life for yourself and what is truly important for yourself and your family.
Your decision making becomes easier and you see no boundaries. Your values are clear and overall you are in a happy state because a life that is purpose driven answers the questions of what is the meaning of life for you.
For many however they do not wish to lead a life on purpose and no matter the reasons it all comes down to leaving their comfort zone. However here are a few excuses people have for not being purpose driven.
A. Being accountable. When you live your life on purpose you raise your accountability level for others to see and to expect out of you and you must now be consistent with your accountability.
B. Integrity. Once you have raised your accountability level your integrity level will also raise automatically. You will find yourself having to be honest and straight with people and admit mistakes on your part when they happen and they will because no one is perfect but there can be no passing the buck so to speak.
C. As you lead your purpose driven life you start to attract people to you. Your attraction factor raises and you become a magnet to others that wish to lead a life that you are now living. They want to learn the meaning of life that you have learned so they too can have a life like yours.
D. Responsibility. Living a purpose driven life means have a disciplined life because it’s going to take discipline on your part to maintain this new lifestyle that you have now created for yourself.
Many people do not wish to have all this responsibility and accountability. They wish to stay on the sidelines and watch and let their lives lead them rather than they lead their lives.
They shun responsibility because they are afraid they can not handle it. They want to live on easy street with not having to answer to anyone about anything but for this “easy street” they live unfulfilled lives when it is all said and done and usually with regret in their later years.
The irony of this is that these are the same people that say this wish they could have meaning in their lives and have a life that is purpose driven but when they are shown the way to have this they do nothing about it.
Discovering your purpose will not happen overnight but it will happen. You may not recognize the changes at first, kind of like watching grass grow. At first it looks like nothing is happening but before long you take another look at the grass and say “hey its time to mow the grass it’s getting too high”.
When you finally make the decision to live a purpose driven life and seek out your meaning of life and start taking action you will soon find yourself unlocking doors that will lead to the treasure you are seeking for your purpose driven life.
